A New School Year [OPEN LOG]

It's almost time for school! Time for the yearly trip back to Diagon Alley. New books, potion ingredients, and robe fittings? Absolutely. First years? Go get your wands. More importantly, now's the time to catch up with old friends and see how they've been over the summer.

If it's your first time to Diagon Alley, maybe you can catch someone heading in to show you the way? Don't worry, there's always a helpful witch or wizard about to guide the Muggleborns to the right location if they get a little lost!

[Dean looks up and immediately flushes. a cute girl is talking to him DONT SCREW THIS UP]

Oh! I-it's a communicator watch. My pop built it!

[He holds it up proudly, but unfortunately the screen is only showing static right now.]

It.. it usually works, but it's powered by electricity. So it's a no-go around here.

[porpoiseful]

Electicity? Oh, wow! Your father must be very smart.

[ She looks fascinated but is too scared to touch it, thinking it'll shock her. ]

So what does it do?

He is! He's a "super-scientist"! He invents things for people.

[He turns a small dial at the side of the watch's screen. It makes a faint clicking noise as the channels change, but it's still just static.]

Well, when it works, I can use it to talk to everyone who has a watch like it! That's just me, my bro, Pop, and our bodyguard! There's a little camera on it- [He points to a tiny, glassy dot on the frame.] -so that we can see each other, too! It's pretty nifty.

[He likes being able to gush over his family's inventions. He doesn't get the chance very often.]

That's wonderful! It's just like a two-way mirror! Oh, I wish it could work in here.

[ She thinks for a moment and realizes something kind of strange. ]

Wait, but isn't your brother a wizard as well?

[like_father]

Yeah, he is.. But we're not allowed to use magic at home.

[He frowns and glances down at the ground. It must be so nice to come from a magic-friendly family! He can hardly imagine it.]

I-it's not that bad though! Pop gives us these little gadgets and things..

Yeah, the Statute of Secrecy... We can't do anything out of school 'til we're of age, either though.

[ She sighs, blowing a piece of hair out of her face. ]

My sisters drive me nuts showing off- Only two more years, at least!

Yeah! Oh, that will really make things so much easier.. Being able to do magic whenever you want!

[He smiles to himself, getting caught up in his own fantasies.]

I could do anything! I could even move out, someday!

[porpoiseful]

[ Ariel smiles at his enthusiasm, feeling it herself. ]

Have you thought about what you want to do once you graduate?

Um.. I'm... not sure, actually. I'm still trying to decide.

What about you?

Not a clue either... Daddy's got Ministry connections he's offered, but I think I'd rather do something else.

[ She smiles. ]

I love to sing, but it's hard to make a career from that.
