A New School Year [OPEN LOG]

It's almost time for school! Time for the yearly trip back to Diagon Alley. New books, potion ingredients, and robe fittings? Absolutely. First years? Go get your wands. More importantly, now's the time to catch up with old friends and see how they've been over the summer.

If it's your first time to Diagon Alley, maybe you can catch someone heading in to show you the way? Don't worry, there's always a helpful witch or wizard about to guide the Muggleborns to the right location if they get a little lost!

Sugarplum's Sweets Shop

[A little girl is standing right outside Sugarplum's Sweets Shop, standing on her tiptoes to be able to look at all of the assorted candies for sale inside. She regards them with a smile, but she seems less than impressed, even though the variety is so vast.

She looks up at a couple standing behind her, who are watching her with gentle smiles.]

Not bad- but they aren't nearly as good as your candy!

[Of course she would think that, since her adoptive parents were the owners of one of the most successful German candy companies in the country. She pauses to listen as they tell her to stay where she is for the moment so they can go purchase her books. With a nod and a chuckle, she turns back to the window.]

Yeah, Mom n' Dad's candies are waaaay better than any'a this stuff...

[ Coming up next to her is another girl, just a little older, wearing a ridiculous sweater (it has light up cats on it) and using it to hold candy like a bag. There's pretty much every kind of candy you can imagine, but when Mabel walks up to her, she grins, all braces. ]

I like your hair! Y'know, you look like a candy expert! What kinda stuff should I be gettin' in on, huh?

IT BEGINS

[Vanellope looks over when Mabel walks up, leaving her hands pressed against the glass. She can't help but smile at the sweater she's wearing, and at the massive hoard of candy she seems to have accumulated.]

Honestly? None of this stuff comes close to th'candy my folks make.

[She turns to the girl while rummaging a little in the pockets of the muggle hoodie she's wearing, before she pulls out two handfuls of assorted hard candies. Then she drops them on top of Mabel's already large pile of candy.]

You try those sometime an' tell me what you think! I promise ya won't wanna eat any other kinds of candy ever again!

[Vanellope grins at Mabel's enthusiasm. Well she'll hand it to her, it's infectious.]

Sure they do! Best candy in the world!

Aw what the heck, why not? Anyone who likes candy s'much as you do has gotta be cool!

[Then she extends her hand for a handshake, as if to seal the deal of their new friendship.]

Oh. Man. No way, are those the Von Schweetzs?! [Guess who's a giant literally fan of your parents' candy, Van? This dude. Who is currently squealing and hyperventilating with excitement.

Well, we're off to a good start.]

[Unlucky for Soos, Vanellope's parents had walked off just as he walked up- but she's the next best thing! Heck, she is the best thing.

She turns to him with a grin, nodding to him curtly with her hands on her hips.]

You got it pal! Makers'a the best candy this side of the country! So I assume you've heard of us?

Heard of you? Dude, I'm a big fan-- [he looks downwards, patting his considerable belly.] --pun somewhat intended.

You're... Vanellope, right? Are you coming to Hogwarts this year?! Oh my god oh my god. [BREATH, Soos. Breath. Jeez.]

She could get used to this. And he even knows her name!]

A'course I am! Mom n' Dad are gettin' my books right now I think. Still gotta get a wand...but I'm on my way!

TOO PRECIOUS FOR THIS WORLD...

Of course! I've already got most of my stuff already packed over there, I'm just shopping for a few extra essentials. Y'know, potion stuff, Quidditch stuff, an owl. The basics.

Well, yeah. I'm in Ravenclaw, dude. You got any idea of where you're gonna end up? Like, how were your parents or your family or something?

Ravenclaw, huh? Well my Mom was in Ravenclaw too! My Dad was a Slytherin though. Yaknow, ambitions and junk an' all that.

Oh, cool. Makes total sense. And hey, I wouldn't be surprised if you get sorted elsewhere, the Hat is just kinda like that, y'know?

Uh-huh! I really don't care s'long as I still get to go to this school in the first place.

What I'm really excited to do is play on the Quidditch team one day!

Really? Man, it's awesome I ran into you, because, da da da daaaa [Cheesy fanfare! Soos reaches behind him, pulling out what appears to be a beater's club and a well-worn broomstick with "S.S. COOL DUDE" written on the side, as well as some kinda modified seat cushion thing.]

I just so happen to be on the Ravenclaw Quidditch team!

Woah!

[Vanellope gasps and quickly takes two steps closer to him, if only to get a better look at the broom and the beater's club. It's obvious that she's highly impressed.]

W...what's it like? Ya gotta tell me everythin'!!

[Soos grins and hands the bat over to Vanellope, letting her look over the well-worn hunk of wood.]

It's pretty sweet, really. I mean, I'm not fast enough to be a Chaser or a Seeker or anything, but I don't have to be fast to hit stuff really hard. Besides, I have natural padding.

[Vanellope nods as she looks over the bat. It's a little heavy- definitely too heavy for someone her size to try to swing while riding a broom, but she appears excited by it all the same.]

I bet you're the best Beater out there though!
