A New School Year [OPEN LOG]

It's almost time for school! Time for the yearly trip back to Diagon Alley. New books, potion ingredients, and robe fittings? Absolutely. First years? Go get your wands. More importantly, now's the time to catch up with old friends and see how they've been over the summer.

If it's your first time to Diagon Alley, maybe you can catch someone heading in to show you the way? Don't worry, there's always a helpful witch or wizard about to guide the Muggleborns to the right location if they get a little lost!

[Mavis blinked before she realized there was a boy next to her. Oh! She'd been so wrapped up in the kittens that she hadn't realized there was anyone else looking at them. Which, how could you not, I mean they were kittens for Merlin's sake. She gave a small laugh, tucking her hair behind her ear with one gloved hand.]

Depends on who you ask. I've been using it for...well, a while.

[ He grinned a little. ]

Pretty popular terminology where you come from?

[ The little calico was wrestling his wrist into submission, his tiny furry arms wrapped around Jason's limb with his teeth going to work on his fingers. Jason wiggled his fingers, making it double hard for the kitten. Cute little asshole. ]

Mmm, I guess. Sometimes people leave the hotel saying it.

[She really didn't know why that was the way it was, but it had been happening ever since she coined the catch phrase about a hundred years ago or so. She giggled at the kitten attempting to wrestle his wrist, leaning over the enclosure to look curiously. In fact, she was leaning over so much that she upturned in the air.]

Do they like that?

[ Flying. Well, that was new. Eh, he'd seen weirder. It was cool though. ]

This guy does.

[ The grin had yet to leave Jason's face and his eyes flickered up to look at Mavis. ]

I'm no expert, but I think it's pretty obvious this guy is a fighter. Now that one, over there- [ He pointed over to a another cat, grooming itself in a prim fashion. ] -that one is a diva. And that one, over on that end- [ The kitten was curled up in a ball, soft kitteny snores emitting out of it's tiny body. ] -that is a lap cat.

[She doesn't even really realize she's doing it until she's done a full rotation and her sneakered feet are back on the floor of the shop. Mavis flushes a little, mostly out of decency, but when he doesn't say anything about it, she lets her shoulders relax, returning her attention to the kittens.]

Wow, you know a lot about cats. We're not allowed pets at the hotel my dad runs but he's said I can get one as long as it stays in my room.

I know this one woman, back in Gotham- cats are sort of her thing. I've been around hers often enough to know a trick or two.

[ Delicately, Jason retracted his arm from the kitten's tiny grip, the small feline giving him a pouty glare as his arm departed. Jason looked over at Mavis and raised an eyebrow. ]

Your family runs a hotel, huh? Must meet lots of people.

Kinda. Dad doesn't really let me help out much but everyone has specific needs that he doesn't seem to remember despite being a bit of a perfectionist.

[She reached into the enclosure to pick up the ginger one, watching the way it curled around her hand as a purr started up.]

[ Jason picked up the little diva cat, a pretty little white thing with a petulant expression. He scratched under her chin and the feline went from miffed to pleased in no time flat. He looked over at Mavis and the ginger kitten and smiled. ]

I think that one likes you.
