A New School Year [OPEN LOG]

It's almost time for school! Time for the yearly trip back to Diagon Alley. New books, potion ingredients, and robe fittings? Absolutely. First years? Go get your wands. More importantly, now's the time to catch up with old friends and see how they've been over the summer.

If it's your first time to Diagon Alley, maybe you can catch someone heading in to show you the way? Don't worry, there's always a helpful witch or wizard about to guide the Muggleborns to the right location if they get a little lost!

[Vanellope leans a bit closer and- because what is personal space- touches his hair with the tips of her fingers experimentally. Yep, still feels like hair at least.]

I wonder what my parents would say if I tried to change the color of my hair too.

[She snickers.]

[As soon as she's done touching his hair, he puts the hat back on.]

Just don't do it the way I did it.

[He would go into detail about how it was really painful and ended up waking up a few days after he was shot in the Hospital Wing, but he wouldn't want to give Vanellope the impression that Hogwarts was dangerous before she even got there.]

[Even if he told her all that, she'd probably just be even more excited to go to Hogwarts than she already is.]

[Well there's not much point in going on on how he thinks Vanellope should be Gryffindor.]

That's cool. My mom says she was in Ravenclaw, an' my dad was in Slytherin.

So are Gryffindor's really as brave and selfless as people say?

Some are, but of course you get a few bad eggs.

[He does seem a little more interested about her parents though rather than his own life story, but he's not going to just randomly ask "What are your parents like?"]

Guess that's true. Dad really wanted t'be in Gryffindor himself, but he got picked for Slytherin. Guess that makes sense, since Slytherins always got high ambitions right? And now he's runnin' his own candy company!

[Oh no, Vanellope, you unearthed Perry's secret weakness.]

[Oh well she's about to unearth it something awful.]

Uh-huh! Ever heard'a Von Schweetz's Candy Company? Comes from Germany, but sells candy all over the world!

... Wow, it must be interesting living with them.

[While his face looks calm, his eyes bright up. Man you're making it hard to not like you.]

Oh yeah, it's pretty great! Jus' imagine gettin' ta have candy any time you want it!

[Despite looking amazed, he regains his calmness. He doesn't want to look like someone who would just make friends with her just to get free candy.]

Oh yeah, it is! You'd think you'd get sick'a all that candy, but it really isn't so bad. I mean, s'not like I eat it all the time.

I should hope so, Hogwarts doesn't have dessert for every meal.

[Although they do have dessert every day at least...]

[She nods before shoving her hands in the pockets of her hoodie.]

But yeah, I'm real excited 'bout comin' to Hogwarts. I hear people say it's better than anything you could ever imagine.

It's a pretty good school, I think.

[Of course considering the only other school he went to required him to work for most of the day, it isn't a very good frame of reference.]

[Vanellope looks over her shoulder, rubbing the back of her neck.]

Guess my parents're prolly gonna be lookin' for me. I guess I'll be seein' you at Hogwarts, Perry!

[She grins back up at him brightly. If anything, the next time he sees her she'll be sorted and an official Hogwarts student.]
