It's almost time for school! Time for the yearly trip back to Diagon Alley. New books, potion ingredients, and robe fittings? Absolutely. First years? Go get your wands. More importantly, now's the time to catch up with old friends and see how they've been over the summer.

If it's your first time to Diagon Alley, maybe you can catch someone heading in to show you the way? Don't worry, there's always a helpful witch or wizard about to guide the Muggleborns to the right location if they get a little lost!

[If anyone is passing by Eeylops Owl Emporium you might see a young boy wearing a white, bearskin hat atop tousled blonde hair staring through the window at the many species' of owls inside for sale. One might be curious as to why he hasn't just gone on inside to look. That's mostly because he doesn't have the money right now to even think about purchasing an owl. Nope, it all has to go to school books and supplies for the year.

Lame. Though that doesn't mean he isn't up for some conversation while he admires the birds.]

Not a bad choice, Finn.

[Marceline speaks up from behind him, twirling her parasol. She likes the kid, she has to admit. He's fun. And owls? They're pretty cool, too.]

[Finn looks over with a wide, missing-toothed grin.]

Hi Marcie! Thanks. ...Kinda broke right now, but boy wouldn't it be cool if I could buy one of these owls?

[He's obviously very excited about them, regardless of the fact that he doesn't have the extra money to buy one.]

Yeah, I guess it'd be pretty cool. [Marceline smiled and shrugged one shoulder nonchalantly.] Handy, too.

So are you gonna get a pet this year?

Nah, I work just fine alone.

You suuuure? I think you could do with a little kitten as a friend myself~

Watch yourself, Finn. I'm not getting a kitty-cat.

[Finn chuckles.]

Awww, you know I'm kiddin'. I dunno, maybe I'll have no choice but to get a cat or somethin'....I don't got the money for an owl, an' I can't take Jake to school. How lame is that?

You without that dog of yours? Bummer, Finn. [She shakes her head.] But a cat wouldn't be too bad for you, you know. It's just not my style.

Yeah, freakin' sucks. Makes no sense that they'd allow cats and not DOGS. Jake's so lazy he wouldn't cause any trouble anyways...

..but I guess you're right. Though I really would dig havin' an owl instead.

Seriously, that guy would be fine at the castle.

...Hey, I could lend you some money for an owl. You'd just owe me.

[He pauses, glancing up at Marceline out of the corner of his eye.]

...Aww...I dunno Marcie. I'd be owing you for years. No way I'm gonna be able to earn that kinda money on my own any time soon.

I think the barn owls are the best. Which one's your favorite?

[Finn ponders that for a moment, tugging thoughtfully on the edge of his hat before answering.]

I think my favorite is the great horned owl. They're just so cool lookin'!

Yeah, they're pretty cool. My brother got one last year! He named it after Batman.

It cost nearly all of our school money to get him, though.. I wish they weren't so expensive.

No kiddin'. ..I can't bring my dog Jake to school, so unless I can get a pet I'm not gonna be havin' one this year.

[But oh has he tried. He even remembers trying to sneak the bulldog in during his second year. Darn this school being prejudice towards dogs. Why did they just allow cats?]

That's really lame.. You'd think they'd allow a dog! Our school has a giant squid, for Pete's sakes! [He saw it once! There's an upside to the Slytherin common room being under the lake.]

I hope you can find something, at least. I got a rat last year, he's not too bad.

Rats are super cool! And I think these ones might be magic? Definitely better than cats.

I'd be upset if I was him. I mean, it's not like you're trying to replace him or anything.. but you wouldn't want to hurt his feelings.

[Wow, magic rats? That's pretty rad.]

Yeah man! I'm gonna have to look and see what kinda rats they have for sale.

I don't think Jake would mind a rat too much, at least. WAY better than a cat.
